Kathie Nicholson

Your name and what is/was your background (what is your major, why science, etc)?
Kathie Nicholson – I left a business career to return to school to study something I was interested in, Viticulture & Enology.

Why did you decide to join a research lab? How did the experience compare to what you had expected?
I was interested in the grape genome.

If you would recommend conducting research in a science lab to others, what would you tell them to get them interested in the idea?
It was an opportunity to be actively working on a research project, with the potential for contributing new information. This is in contrast to labs associated with classes such as chemistry or biology, where established experiments were carried out in order to have a hands-on experience and learn lab skills.

We’d love to know what you’re up to, so please give us a brief description of where you are working or going to school now.
I received my bachelor of science in 2009, and have continued with graduate school here at WSU.
